Introcing, the Daring and Bold, Amadeo Modigliani

Introcing, the Daring and Bold, Amadeo Modigliani

Meet Amadeo Modigliani. Italian painter and sculptor, and muse behind the balanced and herbal Yolioo. Amadeo was most known for his nude series, which are said to have gathered such crowds around the gallery that it eventually caught the attention of a police officer. The officer was offended, not so much by their nudity as by the fact they displayed pubic hair, and promptly ordered them to be taken down. This contributed to Modigliani’s image as a scandalous playboy.

It is also said that when Modigliani visited Pierre-August Renoir in 1918, the famous impressionist confided in him that he did not believe a painting of a nude was finished unless he felt the urge to slap her backside, to which Amadeo replied  ‘I don’t like buttocks’. This interaction shows how the artist wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, even in front of more established individuals.
